Our Great Ice Bear adventure is focused on just that- our world’s largest land carnivore, the boldly beautiful polar bear. The fall is official polar bear season in the Churchill area as some 1,200 of these perfect predators congregate along the Coastline. They are patiently waiting for the ice formation to allow them passage further north to their ideal hunting grounds. It is a time of angst for the bears and one of immense excitement for the thousands of admirers they draw from all over the world.

Day 1 – Arrive in Polar Bear Country
Arrive in the charming northern town of Churchill. Here, you meet with your morning transfer to Seal River Heritage Lodge. Enjoy the views of the barren tundra on your way up to the only fly-in lodge north of Churchill. The golden wooden lodge is just as inviting on the inside as it is on the outside. As you expected, your friendly hosts are waiting inside to welcome you to the lodge.

Drop your bags off at your rooms and enjoy a brief workshop on being in polar bear country. It’s now off to the coastline to catch your first glimpse of the “Great Ice Bears”.

Day 2 – Explore the Tundra
The smell of freshly brewed coffee drifts into your room and wakes you in time for a hearty Canadian breakfast. From Wild Blueberry Pancakes to Caribou bacon you’ll be full and ready for your day on the ice.

Join your naturalist guide for a day with the bears. Because the lodge is right where the bears are, you may not need to travel too far.

Day 3 – A Day of Warmth
After your warming breakfast, it’s another full day of bear viewing. This afternoon you stop for a “Trapper’s Lunch” consisting of traditional First Nation’s bread, honey and caribou sandwiches.

The sun begins to fall toward the horizon as you head back to the lodge. Warm yourself with a cup of hot tea and spark your appetite with some appetizers before dinner. A gourmet dinner is served and once you’re through each course it’s time for relaxation and story-telling by the fire.

Day 4 – Wildlife & Churchill
It’s another morning of hot coffee and sizzling caribou bacon before heading out for a morning wildlife viewing hike. Be on the lookout for arctic fox, wolves and snowy owls that often surround the lodge.

At midday, it’s time to pack your bags and say your goodbyes. You travel back to Churchill and enjoy some free time exploring this quaint town. Tonight, relax in the comfort of one of Churchill’s best hotels.

Day 5 – Great Ice Bears/Depart with Fond Memories
The absolute best way to see the polar bear is by Tundra Buggy. Venture out today on the Tundra Buggies for a viewing experience of a lifetime. Today’s the day to capture the perfect photo so be sure to have room on your memory card. You could see as many as 30 bears today, making this the perfect ending to an already amazing vacation.

This evening you fly back to Winnipeg for your journey home. With fond memories and the best photos, you leave the bright skies and clear air of Canada behind as your holiday comes to an end.
