Many of our trips are based in Churchill, known as the Polar Bear capital of the world. The 'tundra buggy' - a large and solid vehicle on tractor wheels, is the most common and safest form of getting amongst the bears. Other methods such as snow-mobiles and 4x4s are also used. But taking a helicopter is definitely the most exhilarating. Imagine the long, wide blue-grey tundra as the sun touches the horizon. Spotting a family of unaware polar bears, you gently hover nearby, snapping gorgeous pictures and then returning to Churchill for warm drinks and a good meal.
Consider taking a dog-sled ride, our most popular extra activity. Picture this - excited huskies bark impatiently, waiting for you to command them forward. 'Mush!' Your sled jolts you onward. This is one unforgettable ride.
Accommodation comes in all flavors in the North. Churchill supplies ample hotels with all the modern conveniences. Or for the more adventurous, try staying at the Tundra Buggy Lodge or Nanuk Lodge. These sleeping quarters are right in the middle of polar bear territory. Wake to the smell of coffee and the sight of curious polar bears ambling around, just meters away.
